The new Samsung Neo QLED 4K and 8K TVs look spectacular

You’ve all heard of hands on, but how about an eyes on? I had the opportunity to see the latest Samsung TVs at work, the Neo QLED models. It’s about 3 models, two 4K and one 8K, which rely heavily on gaming, have solar remote control, upscaling, top acoustics. Tizen runs as OS and this is about the Samsung 55 QN95, Samsung 75 QN95 and Samsung 65 QN900 models. Find out about them below.

Samsung 55 QN95 and Samsung 75 QN95 are practically the same TV, but with two different diagonals, 55 inches and 75 inches.

What is Neo QLED?

Neo QLED is an evolution of Samsung’s QLED technology. QLED stands for Quantum Dot LED, because it uses a Quantum Dot filter to increase contrast and make colors more vivid. Samsung launched the technology in 2017 and has improved it ever since. High-end QLED TVs have a Direct Full Array Backlight system, with backlighting, providing better brightness control.

Neo QLED gave up Direct Array in favor of a Mini LED backlight, with thousands of small LEDs, which provides more precise control over brightness. Mini LEDs allow LCD panels to compete with OLEDs. This without burn in and without wear over time, but also with a deep black and more vivid colors, plus uniform and evolved brightness compared to classic LCDs. The blooming effect is reduced and we have precise control of the lighting areas (local dimming).

What special features do the new TVs have?

Gaming

Gamers will be happy to know that they get a 21: 9 aspect ratio, or even 32: 9 for a wider field of view, an advantage in competitive games. We also have a HUD (Game Bar), which displays FPS, options related to input lag, but also FreeSync. You can adjust the on-screen position of the play area to the position from which you play on the couch. Motion Xcelerator Turbo + gives you more dynamic gameplay, with support for 120 Hz refresh rates, useful on new consoles like PlayStation 5. We also have VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro and Auto Low Latency Mode, which reduces input lag with the push of a button .

Sound

The TVs offer Object Tracking Sound Pro, which will move the sound with the moving images for extra immersion. We also have Q-Symphony technology, which synchronizes the acoustics of the TV with the soundbar. There is also SpaceFit Sound, which analyzes the surrounding camera and automatically calibrates the sound. Proceed that sonar of a submarine to scan the room. Then we have AVA (Active Voice Amplifier), which highlights the clarity of voice, which is useful for dialogue in movies.

The 75-inch model has 70W speakers with 4: 2: 2 channels.

Processor

Remote control and design

The new TVs come with the SolarCell remote control, which charges from the sun or even from artificial light. It has a voice control button, is light and narrow, and has an iPod-style navigation wheel. The TVs are easy to mount on the wall, with Slim Fit Wall Mount, leaving the bulk of the components and ports in an external device. On the 8K QN900 model it is supported on the support, with an inclination of 45 degrees, well camouflaged.

My impressions

OK, you have technology above, let’s see my impressions. First of all, the acoustics have a strong and serious bass, at least on the QN900 model. The image is very crisp, the colors are warm, vivid, but not as bright and “burning” as with OLEDs, which is a good thing I would say if you want realism. I haven’t tested games, but I’ve seen some high frame rate demos and they made me want something like this at home, next to the PS5.

I also appreciate the split screen function in 4 different segments (Many View) for the 8K model, including games, so you can follow tips and tricks if you want while playing. I love the sleek solution of outsourcing ports to that Blu-Ray player-sized device, so you don’t have to worry about looking for ports when the TV is stuck to the wall.

There’s also the issue with NFC, so if you touch your Samsung phone to the edge of the TV immediately the song you were listening to or watching the video goes on TV. White ball and for the solar charging approach of the remote control. Perhaps the most successful thing about these products is the industrial design: those metal edges with many holes, shiny metal in sight, super narrow edges around the screen. You could find such design approaches on expensive productivity monitors and the very thin waist is again to be appreciated. They are still niche products, but for those with a bigger budget I say that they should not be missing from PS5 or Xbox X Series.
